Hello, Everyone.
I’m writing today to let you all know about how Alithia’s Art Angels started and why it means so much to me. For those of you who don’t know who I am, I’ll explain. My name is Jessica. I am a mother of three beautiful children. My oldest daughter, Alithia Haven Ramirez, was a victim of the Robb Elementary School tragedy in Uvalde, Texas. Alithia was only 10 years old, but she already had big dreams. We always talked about her future, even at a young age. She had a great love for art, and told me that she wanted to go to “Paris College of Art” to become an Artist. Alithia was so passionate about art and would practice it every single day. Alithia started off with just scribbles, to finger painting, to coloring, to drawing every chance she had, always with a sketchbook and something to draw with wherever she went. I was always supportive of her dream and was willing to do whatever it took for it to come true. I knew Alithia had a gift and that she was going places.
Alithia believed in herself so much that when she found out about an art contest at school, she signed up. She was so excited for it, planning, telling everyone she knew of her ideas. All her hard work and dedication paid off, when she won first place in her grade level 2nd-4th. With her win, she was to get announced as a winner, have a picture taken, have her art hung up, and a plaque dedicated in her name, but Alithia didn’t get recognition for her bullying prevention poster contest. She didn’t get any of what was promised to her winning. She waited and asked everyday for her plaque, because she was so proud of herself, and wanted to have something to show for it.
Alithia’s Art Angels was created to honor the life and art of my daughter, Alithia Haven Ramirez, and the art of all children. I want to be able to help other children showcase their art through our website and social media, so that their hard work and dedication does not go unnoticed. Alithia was so kind and encouraging of others, she would always compliment others on their artwork. So my hope is that this will encourage children to take pride in what they create, follow their dreams and to be recognized. So that they’ll know for sure Alithia’s Art Angels sees them, and honors their hard work and passion.
I want Alithia to be remembered by carrying her love of art in supporting every child who feels brave and proud enough to show us their art. Every summer, we have an art contest. Whether they win or not, every child will get the recognition they deserve for participating.
