Sofia's mother, Teresita Cantu, wrote:

"My daughter Sofia Cantu was Alithia’s friend, she met her at first grade and she still was her friend until fourth grade. My daughter remembers that she loved to draw next to Alithia, and also Amerie Jo Garza, to share ideas of drawing in different styles. Alithia loved Sofia’s style and she said that she was inspired by Sofia’s style. My daughter always going to remember her friend. She just made a painting thinking on her friend’s Alithia and Amerie."
